'I thought I had just injured my leg – it turned out to be cancer'

A woman who thought she had injured her leg in taekwondo has revealed the moment she found out it was bone cancer. Lilli Broadbent was just 13-years-old when she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma back in 2008.

Warning signs first started to appear was when her knee felt swollen and painful for no reason. She put it down to an injury from taekwondo but the persistent aching never went away.

Alarm bells started to ring when she lost a lot of weight, prompting her parents to take her to a doctor. Lilli, now 25, was immediately referred to hospital for an X-ray which revealed a tumour on her knee.

Her world came crashing down when a biopsy confirmed her worst fears – it was cancer. She underwent 11 weeks of chemotherapy and a nine-hour operation
