John Prine has sadly died. The acclaimed, Grammy Award-winning Americana singer-songwriter died on Tuesday (April 7) at the age of 73 due to coronavirus, his family confirmed to Billboard. John‘s family revealed his diagnosis at the end of March, letting fans know that he was in the hospital in critical condition.

He first got his start in the folk scene in the ’70s, and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019. Fifteen of his albums entered the Billboard 200 chart ever since his self-titled debut in 1971.

His final studio album, 2018′s The Tree of Forgiveness, debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, marking his best-ever ranking on the chart in his career.

Tequila could become America’s favorite liquor, data trends show

General Declaration on the Protection of the Appellation of Origin Tequila, as put forth by Mexico’s Tequila Regulatory Council. Tequila popularity has been steadily growing since 2002 and in 2021 alone, 26.9 million 9-liter cases of tequila were sold, according to the Distilled Spirits Council. Compared to vodka, which still has the top spot in Americans’ hearts, tequila sales grew by 30.1% compared to vodka sales which only grew by 4.9% in 2021 alone.
