Chorley, has had a long health battle after contracting the virus at the start of the pandemic in 2020. The 55-year-old was hospitalised for over a year and did not return home until April 2021.
During the height of the pandemic, the former Southlands High School and Runshaw College pupil became the UK's longest inpatient in a hospital to be treated.
At one point he almost died after being diagnosed with sepsis. Derek has now since home to be with Good Morning Britain presenter Kate and their two children Darcey and William. However, broadcaster Kate, 55, has recently told how he is 'still very damaged'.
