Vallow and Tylee Ryan,The prosecution contends that Vallow, her husband Chad Daybell, and her late brother Alex Cox, hatched a plan to kill Vallow’s two kids, as well as Chad’s previous wife, Tammy Daybell.A judge decided the couple will have separate trials.Investigators say Vallow and Daybell used their religious beliefs to justify these three killings.

Canada Revenue Agency says it will not extend the deadline to file taxes even if thousands of its workers go on strike amid an ongoing labour dispute.“There are no plans to extend the T1 tax filing deadlines, as a potential strike in no way impedes the ability of Canadians to file their taxes electronically or on paper,” an agency spokesperson told Global News in an email Thursday.“Canadians should take steps to ensure their return is filed by May 1, 2023, along with payment for any balance owing.” Read more: Tax delays, passport backlogs: How you’ll be impacted if public servants strike As of Friday, more than 35,000 agency workers, represented by the Union of Taxation Employees (UTE) and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), were in a legal position to strike after voting ended last week.That’s in addition to the 122,000 other Public Service Alliance of Canada federal workers who entered a strike position as of Wednesday.The labour dispute over contracts, wages and remote work comes as the May 1 deadline to file income tax and benefit returns for 2022 is approaching.In the event of a strike, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has warned some services may be delayed or unavailable.Specifically, the CRA anticipates there may be delays in processing some income tax and benefit returns, particularly those filed by paper, and increased wait times in contact centres.Even if there is a labour disruption, the agency says on its website that benefit payments will be prioritized and the child benefit will continue.As negotiations continue, CRA is encouraging Canadians to file their taxes “as soon as possible, not only this year but every year.” Read more: CRA ‘confident’ a compromise is possible as tax season strike

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department continues its search for suspects connected to the theft of thousands worth of dimes from a truck in Philadelphia. Authorities say officers responded to the parking lot of a Walmart on Byberry Road in the Northeast section of the city. Investigators say responding officers found an unmarked trailer, which contained about $750,000 worth of dimes, broken open. Police say the initial call came in as a theft with a group of ten more males stealing from the trailer. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAccording to officials, detectives from the Northeast Division and SWAT held the crime scene as investigators surveyed the crime scene. Police say they are searching for multiple male suspects in addition to a white Chrysler 300 and a dark-colored pickup truck. Authorities say about $200,000 worth of dimes were stolen in the heist. Authorities say a parked trailer containing $750k in dimes was broken into overnight. Police found dimes scattered throughout the parking lot and down the street in the aftermath of the heist.

BOISE, Idaho - Melanie Gibb, the former best friend of Lori Vallow, the so-called "Doomsday mom" who's accused of killing her two youngest children," is testifying in an Idaho courtroom on Thursday. The focus in court on April 12 shifted to the relationship between Vallow and her husband, Chad Daybell. A captain in the Madison County Jail who manages the jail's Telmate system for inmates took the stand, and the jury heard a call between the couple that took place in June 2020, as Fremont County Sheriff's deputies and the FBI searched Daybell's property.In the call, Vallow can be heard asking if they are seizing stuff, and Daybell replied that authorities were searching.Cameras are not permitted in the courtroom, but you can listen to the audio.

Florida on Wednesday led to the first Flash Flood Emergency on record in Broward County, as the extent of the historic flooding in Fort Lauderdale was seen in drone video that showed numerous cars that had been submerged and destroyed by the rapidly rising water.According to the National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center, more than 25 inches of rain fell in the Fort Lauderdale area on Wednesday. Once confirmed by the NWS, this event would set a new 24-hour statewide rain record.The previous record of 23.28 inches of rain in a 24-hour period was reported in Key West, Florida.Drone video recorded in Fort Lauderdale shows numerous cars left abandoned and submerged in the rapidly rising floodwaters along what would typically be a busy street.Streets and cars were underwater, buildings flooded, and travelers could not get in or out of Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport and the rain is expected to continue on Thursday.

Firefighters respond to the Our Lady of Consolation Parish School to fight a 3-alarm blaze.

PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia officials have announced "an independent and comprehensive evaluation" of the Philadelphia 76ers’ proposal to build a $1.3 billion sports arena next to the city's Chinatown neighborhood, an idea that's drawn strong opposition from some Chinatown residents and leaders.Mayor Jim Kenney on Wednesday called the proposal announced last summer "an exciting opportunity" but said officials must understand the impact it may have on the surrounding communities before any plans move forward."In the coming months, he said, city and public agency partners as well as third-party consultants will complete technical studies on the feasibility and impacts of such an arena in the proposed location. He said that would include assessing "building design, community impact and urban planning, economic impact and parking/traffic impact."Kenney also said the developers must ensure that the project "works for the surrounding communities" that would be affected and urged that they be "involved and engaged throughout every step of this process."The city's announcement came hours before an evening meeting scheduled in Chinatown by opponents of the arena, which would be built just a block away from the community's prominent gateway arch with a planned opening in 2031.

PHILADELPHIA - Students from a Philadelphia Catholic school are heading to a new location to learn after a fire tore through and damaged the original building. The students who attend Our Lady of Consolation Parish School in Chestnut Hill will now take classes on the campus of Chestnut Hill College. The three-alarm fire initially broke out on March 21, when 39 students were inside for an after-school program and had to be evacuated from the building. A day after a 3-alarm fire torched a Philadelphia catholic school, students who have been forced to learn virtually visited the charred remains of their school.A spokesperson for the Philadelphia Fire Department said the building sustained heavy damage to the entire second floor and roof. The cause of the fire was later identified as an electrical wiring issue, according to the Fire Marshal's Office. Officials have identified the source of a fire at damaged the Our Mother of Consolation Parish School in Philadelphia.

HUNTING PARK - Philadelphia fire crews battled a three-alarm fire that broke out in a junkyard on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say the fire erupted on the 500 block of West Annsbury Street in the city's Hunting Park section. SKYFOX flew over the fire, which sent plumes of smoke into the air of nearby streets. According to the Philadelphia Fire Department, drivers were asked to avoid the area of 5th and Hutchinson Streets.MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe fire was raised to two and then three alarms, requiring additional crews to respond. There was so much smoke, officials said, smoke alarms went off inside nearby homes.A fire broke out at a Hunting Park junkyard, quickly escalating to three-alarms, with 120 firefighters reporting to fight the blaze.In an update late Wednesday afternoon, fire officials announced one civilian injury, due to smoke inhalation. That person was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to recover, noting the injury was minor.SKYFOX over a junkyard in Hunting Park, where fire crews are actively working to extinguish flames.They went on to say the junkyard was an all-automobile junkyard.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - A high-speed police chase took a dangerous turn in Los Angeles County Wednesday evening.A man, initially wanted for reckless driving, led the California Highway Patrol on a chase along the 5 Freeway across Los Angeles County. Over the course of the chase, the suspect traveled through parts of Valley Village, North Hollywood, Pacoima, Santa Clarita and Castaic.The chase eventually ended in the North Antelope Valley area where the suspect ditched the car.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY - A Pennsylvania family left in shambles after officials say an 11-year-old boy was killed by his own mother, who then tried to drive her car into the ocean at the Jersey Shore.Police were called to a house 500 block of Privet Road in Horsham Township Tuesday when a man said he discovered his son dead in the master bedroom.The boy's dad told police the 11-year-old had slept in bed with his mom the night prior, but the door was locked the next morning, and his wife's car was missing.Officials say an investigation revealed that the boy's mom, identified as Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead, killed her son after he went to sleep around 9:30 p.m.MORE HEADLINES:She then fled to Cape May and drove into the ocean until her car was inoperable.

BRANDON, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for help identifying a man and a woman accused of attacking a driver who, witnesses said, hit their car and drove away on a Tampa-area roadway.Troopers say the pair got into a minor crash with a 31-year-old Brandon woman on Tuesday around 5 p.m. at the intersection of US 301 and Martin Luther King Boulevard. In video posted on social media, the man and the woman can be seen attacking a 2019 Chevy sedan.

PHILADELPHIA - A person walking down a city street suddenly found themselves in the middle of a robbery that ended with them being that target of a shooting.Police say the incident unfolded when a teen suspect tried to rob a 62-year-old woman on the 2700 block of Brown Street last week.She was getting items from her car when the suspect pointed a revolver at her face, and told her not to move, according to authorities.MORE HEADLINES:Video shows the moment a person passing by the crime interrupted the robbery.The suspect backed away from the victim, then fired one shot at the bystander as he ran away.No one was injured, and nothing was stolen.Police say the suspect arrived in a 4-door car, possibly a Mazda 3, driven by a second suspect.

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - The Biden administration released an environmental analysis Tuesday of competing plans for how seven Western states and tribes reliant on the dwindling water supply from the Colorado River should cut their use but declined to publicly take a side on the best option.On one side is California and some tribes along the river that want to protect their high-priority rights to the river’s water, which they use for drinking and farming. On the other side are the other six states — Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico — who say it’s time to come up with an approach that more fairly shares the river.The Interior Department did not say how states should get to deeper water cuts, but defended its authority to make sure basic needs such as drinking water and hydropower generated from the river are met — even if it means setting aside the priority system."Failure is not an option," Interior Deputy Secretary Tommy Beaudreau told The Associated Press.The 1,450-mile (2,334-kilometer) powerhouse of the West serves 40 million people across seven states, which span tribal land, and Mexico, generates hydroelectric power for regional markets, and irrigates nearly 6 million acres (2,428 hectares) of farmland.A multi-decade drought in the West intensified by climate change, rising demand and overuse has sent water levels at key reservoirs along the river to unprecedented lows.

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. - A 20-year-old woman and 13-year-old boy were both hospitalized after a blaze broke out inside a New Castle County home Tuesday morning.The 3-story home was fully engulfed by flames when fires crews arrived to Everett Avenue in Claymont around 9 a.m.The woman and boy were both found in the front yard, and transported to local hospitals.Officials say they are both in serious condition for smoke inhalation.MORE HEADLINES:Damage to the house is estimated at $200,000, according to fire officials, who say three adults and one child were displaced.The cause of the fire is under investigation.

SEATTLE - Newly released charging documents further detail what may have led up to the disappearance of Leticia Martinez. The suspect arrested in connection to her disappearance has also been officially linked to her son's kidnapping, according to court documents.Martinez, 58, was last seen at a Seattle Mariners game on March 31 with 46-year-old Brett Gitchel.

NEWARK, Del. - Delaware State Police are asking for the public's help to locate three teen suspects in connection to a shooting that erupted inside a Delaware mall over the weekend.A large law enforcement presence descended on Christiana Mall Saturday night after reports of shots fired caused the mall to be evacuated, and eventually shut down for the night.Police say the shooting stemmed from a fight at the food court entrance, when the suspects confronted an 18-year-old man.The suspects physically assaulted the victim, which then sparked a fight with two of the victim's friends, according to authorities.At one point, police say one suspect removed a gun from his waistband and opened fire.RELATED COVERAGE: Christiana Mall Shooting: DSP confirm 3 shot, 5 others injured in fight that led to shootingThe 18-year-old victim and his 16-year-old friend were struck three times. PHILADELPHIA - Surveillance footage captured the moment two suspects stole from a Philadelphia museum, and now police are looking to identify them.The masked suspects were seen entering the Independence Seaport Museum in the early morning hours of April 7.The Seaport Museum contains collections of maritime history and culture along the Delaware River and is located in the Penn's Landing complex.MORE HEADLINES:Police say they took a welder and tools, then fled in an unknown direction.Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A fire broke out at a 114-year-old Massachusetts church not long after Easter services, causing part of the roof to collapse and more than 100 firefighters to respond. The fire was reported around 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Cambridge. More than 100 firefighters from 18 engine companies and eight ladder companies responded, Acting Fire Chief Tom Cahill said.Part of the roof collapsed, but the main structure and the steeple were still standing. Video of the multi-alarm fire by state Rep Mike Connolly showed heavy smoke coming from the church."My heart goes out to the congregation and staff at the Faith Lutheran Church who had just celebrated Easter this morning.

Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, has apologized after video surfaced of him kissing a young boy on the lips and requesting that he “suck my tongue” at an event in northern India.The allegations of inappropriate behaviour surround a since-viral video from the Dalai Lama’s visit to a temple in his honour in Dharamshala, India in February.In the video, a young boy approached the 14th Dalai Lama, also called Tenzin Gyatso, and asked for a hug. In response, the 87-year-old religious figure gestured to his own cheek and said, “first here.” The boy kissed the Dalai Lama’s cheek and gave him a hug.

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office are searching for several wanted fugitives connected to deadly shootings in the city. District Attorney Larry Krasner and other officials from his office are set to release information on the suspects and their alleged crimes in his weekly gun crimes update on Monday. Authorities say the names set to be announced are of suspects wanted for deadly shootings in the city's North Philadelphia and Brewerytown sections. This announcement comes three weeks after the DA's Office released a list of another 10 fugitives wanted for murders dating back to 2019.  Related Philadelphia's law enforcement leaders are enlisting the help of the public to catch nearly a dozen murder suspects who have been roaming the streets of the city for years, some since 2019.This is a developing story.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville officials are poised to vote Monday to reinstate one of the two Black Democratic lawmakers expelled by Republican colleagues for their gun control protest on the Tennessee House floor after a deadly school shooting — essentially, sending him back after a long weekend.Nashville’s metro council has called the meeting to address the vacancy left by the expulsion on Thursday of former Rep. Justin Jones. Many councilmembers have publicly commented that they want to send Jones back to the statehouse.

PHILADELPHIA - Investigators with the Philadelphia Police Department are working to learn more about an accident that left a man critically injured early Monday morning. According to officials, officers from the 18th police district responded to the 6000 block of Market Street. Police say there was an initial report of a shooting occurring at the scene, but investigators later learned a 33-year-old man was hit by a utility truck.MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAuthorities say the man was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. The incident is not being investigated as a hit and run and the cause remains under investigation, according to police. 

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - Workers at Rutgers University are going on strike, beginning at 9 a.m. Monday.Three unions representing faculty, graduate students, postdocs and EOF counselors will hit the picket lines over what they call a failed contract agreement.The university's AAUP-AFT Academic Worker Union posted about the strike on Twitter, saying it is the first time in the university's history that all three unions joined together for a strike. Union leaders voted to strike Sunday night, saying the administration failed to agree on a new contract, after nearly a year of bargaining.In a short statement on Governor Phil Murphy's Twitter account, he said, in part:I am calling the University and union bargaining committees to meet in my office tomorrow to have a productive dialogue.The strike would be the first faculty strike in the school’s 257-year history.It will impact more than 60,000 students across all three campuses, located in New Brunswick, Camden and Newark, New Jersey.Faculty at Rutgers University are prepared to go on strike Monday morning.

BLACKWOOD, N.J. - An Easter Sunday house fire in Blackwood has forced residents to seek alternative shelter.Gloucester Township officials said eight different fire crews arrived to heavy smoke and flames emanating from the back of a home on Oak Avenue, in Blackwood, Sunday afternoon, just after 12:30.Gloucester Township police evacuated residents in surrounding homes, as a safety precaution.Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze and bring it under control.Residents in the home were able to safely get out of the house prior to first responders arriving.

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. - A deadly discovery led to a murder investigation, police chase one state over, and ultimately the arrest of a male-female duo weeks later.Charles Lowe, 44, and Sierra Steiner, 28, are charged with murder after a man was found shot and killed inside a car on the 2400 block of Old County Road on March 19.Police say the man, who has not been identified, was parked with Steiner in the passenger seat when Lowe pulled up behind him and approached the car.When he tried to drive away, authorities say Lowe shot the victim causing him to crash into a wooded area.MORE HEADLINES:Steiner and Lowe then fled together in the suspect's vehicle.

LOS ANGELES - A puppy was safely recovered after being thrown out of a moving vehicle during a wild 2-hour pursuit through parts of Los Angeles County Friday afternoon.  The pursuit began around noon in the area of 99th Street and Avalon Boulevard in South Los Angeles. The suspect, in a Chevy Avalanche, was wanted for attempted murder and carjacking.  A suspect wanted for attempted murder led officers with the Los Angeles Police Department on a two-hour pursuit Friday afternoon that spanned across LA County, at one point ditching one vehicle and getting into another.WATCH THE FULL PURSUIT HERE SkyFOX was live over the chase as the vehicle sped through parts of Inglewood and Westchester, on both sides of the Los Angeles International Airport. During the chase, the suspect's vehicle hit another car and shortly thereafter the driver ditched the Chevy truck and got into the back of another vehicle, that appeared to be waiting for him. RELATED: Suspect hits vehicle, jumps into another during wild 2-hour pursuitThe chase continued at high speeds on surface streets in Willowbrook before the driver in the second vehicle led authorities back to the South LA area. In the area of 56th Street and Figueroa St, someone from inside the vehicle tossed a puppy out of the car. The puppy was placed inside a designer handbag.

DENVER - Colorado authorities said at least one person was killed and two others were injured after a fire erupted in a residential building Saturday morning. South Metro Fire Rescue said firefighters found several people were trapped inside on South Quebec Street in Denver. Those injured were taken to a local hospital with one of them "in critical condition and one person transported in serious condition," according to the department. RELATED: Rare disease found in Colorado fish urges warning as ‘Sandy Flesh’ spreads WestCrews were able to get the fire under control. A cause has not been determined, but an investigation is underway. Storyful contributed to this report. Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) says it will be transparent about any impact to its services if workers go on strike — potentially as soon as this week.At the same time, the agency says it is “confident” a compromise can be reached.“The CRA is committed to being transparent with Canadians about impacts to services, should they happen,” the agency said in a statement released Friday.The deadline for filing income tax and benefit returns for 2022 is April 30, but since that’s a Sunday CRA says Canadians can still file on May 1. PHILADELPHIA - Officials say a car ran into the Schuylkill River early Saturday morning, prompting an hours-long search by police, fire crews and diving teams.Several emergency crews responded the area of Kelly Drive near the Columbia Bridge for reports of a car in the Schuylkill River around 1:30 a.m.An additional diving team was called to the scene to search for any possible people in the river.
