Katie Piper has revealed that she has been fitted with an artificial eye, after numerous attempts to save her natural one. The 'Loose Women' panelist experienced partial sight loss in her left eye following a harrowing acid attack by an ex-boyfriend which led to multiple surgeries in the hope of saving the eye.
Yet, as years passed, Piper battled with infections and even had her eyes sewn closed for months to promote healing. Taking to Instagram, she made the announcement that it was time to consider getting a prosthetic eye, communicating emotions through a caption that read: "After many years battling with my eye health, I've reached the end of the road somewhat, and the decision has been made to try a prosthetic eye shell." Katie shared her step towards this new chapter, posting pictures and videos of the process, and expressed gratitude for her medical team's support.
Adding to her message, she said: "This marks the start of a journey to have an artificial eye, with an incredible medical team behind me.
As always I'm incredibly grateful to all those in the NHS and private health care system for their talent and kindness."
