The borough has now been overtaken by Salford, where cases are continuing to rise, according to the latest data from Public Health England.
In the week ending June 10, there were 311.4 cases per 100,000 people in Salford - an increase of 47 per cent week-on-week. Bolton has now dropped to second in the table, with an infection rate of 308.4 per 100,000.
The infection rate is still falling in Bolton, with cases dropping by four per cent week-on-week in the week ending June 10.
