A lion was caught on camera venturing in a school as it made an appearance to villagers during coronavirus lockdown in India.

The majestic beast took a stroll around the Una Village of Gir Somnath district in the country's southwestern state of Gujarat on Wednesday as it tried to prey on cattle at a nearby shed.

Stunned villagers tracked down the lion and found it hiding in a deserted primary school. Video shared on Twitter shows the big cat resting on a ledge by a broken fence.

Officers from the Forest Department have to tranquillise the lion and put it to sleep before releasing it back to the jungle.
