COLOMBO (News 1st) – Workers’ remittances increased to US dollars 325 million during August 2022, in comparison to US dollars 279 million in the previous month, recording the highest monthly remittances thus far during 2022. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka said that total departures for foreign employment were recorded at 29,072 during August 2022. Total departures of foreign employment comprised unskilled (9,685), skilled (8,590), and domestic aid (7,176) categories. Total departures for foreign employment during January – August 2022 were recorded at 192,594, compared to 45,899 in the corresponding period of the previous year, and a total of 117,952 in 2021.Tourist arrivals:Tourist arrivals moderated in August 2022 to 37,760, from 47,293 arrivals recorded in July 2022. The fast-food chain announced Tuesday a collaboration with Cactus Plant Flea Market to create a boxed meal that contains one of four collectible figurines: Grimace, the Hamburglar, and Birdie and Cactus Buddy. Meal options include a Big Mac, or the 10-piece Chicken McNuggets with french fries and a drink. The announcement had adults running (or maybe more like driving) to their local McDonald’s to snag a box. The adult meals are only available for a limited time, which is probably why McDonald’s employees are feeling the sting of handling an avalanche of orders for the specialized meals. People on social media claiming to be McDonald’s workers are venting their frustrations on Reddit and TikTok as orders pile up for the coveted adult Happy Meals and staff struggle to meet demand. Club Med, a French hospitality group with all-inclusive resorts around the world, released a list of the top 10 happiest travel destinations for 2022, including those ranked in North America, Europe, and worldwide overall.The ranking was based on the 50 most visited tourist destinations globally and using nine metrics, which included crime, safety, pollution, cost of domestic beers in a restaurant, outdoor activities, day trips, spa and wellness centers, LGBTQ+ friendliness, and an overall happiness score on a scale of 0 to 100.After compiling a final average score for each city, "Sin City" came out on top as the most popular destination for vacationers in search of a happy getaway, according to Club Med. "Las Vegas had the edge thanks to a wide range of daytime activities, perfect for visitors planning to make the most of their stay," the group said in a statement. Kreskin Torres, a 33-year-old Army veteran, kicked off his adventure in Los Angeles, California, and since then, he has visited 49 states.
