A man in his 40s has been arrested as part of an investigation into fraudulent claims of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP).
Gardaí issued a warning earlier this year in relation to a phishing email claiming to be from the Courts Service, where recipients were told they had been selected for jury services.
Over 70 people responded and gave personal data, which was used to make fake applications for PUP payments. This resulted in over €165,000 being paid out.
Gardaí attached to the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection, along with the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau and local gardaí in Co Cork, identified and arrested a suspect today.
