Manchester gin producer drops everything to make a million bottles of hand-sanitiser for GMP and the NHS

A Manchester gin producer has halted production so it can make hand-sanitiser for police officers to help them stay healthy during the coronavirus crisis.

Didsbury Gin announced it would stop its beverage operation and instead make disinfectant for GMP. It responded to a call from police officers on the ground who fear they might be exposed to the virus without the proper protection.

The firm has already made the equivalent of one million bottles of hand-sanitiser which will be sent to the police - and the NHS - next week.

Chief Constable Ian Hopkins is giving surgical masks to up to 4,000 of his front line officers but he has admitted these are 'not of the required standard'.
