The Mayor of Luton and two councillors broke lockdown rules as coronavirus cases in the town soared. Tahir Malik, the Labour mayor, and councillors Asif Masood and Waheed Akbar are facing calls to resign after breaking lowdown rules by attending a social gathering with nine other men.
The trio were pictured on social media at a party in the LU4 area of the town, which this week was designated an "area of intervention" by Public Health England (PHE) because of a spike in cases.
As a result easing lockdown was delayed in the town, with gyms and indoor pools not reopening today as they did in most other parts of England.
