National Guard soldiers blocking 26th Avenue just north of the Third Precinct and beside the looted shell of a Cub Foods. (FOX 9) - The City of Minneapolis has issued a curfew, taking effect at 8 p.m., after three nights of violent unrest following the death of George Floyd.
In an emergency order, Mayor Jacob Frey cites damage caused as protests became heated over the past two nights, leading to widespread looting and fires being set.
Tensions reached a peak as rioters stormed a Minneapolis police precinct and setting a fire. The 8 p.m. curfew takes effect Friday and will go through the weekend.
The curfew comes hours after one of the officers involved in Floyd's death was taken into custody and arrested for murder.
