A leaked Pentagon memo to the United States Defence Department warns coronavirus could be "globally-persistent" for the next year, with a vaccine not expected until "at least the summer of 2021." Secretary of Defence Mark Esper reportedly drafted the memo, which alludes to a "long path ahead" for the world and a potential "resurgence" of Covid-19.
He states the virus is likely to be around until 2021, and said the focus should now be on "resuming critical missions, increasing levels of activity, and making necessary preparations" should the virus rear its head once more.
The draft document also lays out a framework for the U.S. military’s reopening, and includes the resumption of training exercises.
