People gather to protest against plans for a coronavirus vaccine and the government's handling of lockdown

People gathered at Platt Fields Park today to protest about the Government’s handling of the coronavirus lockdown and plans for a vaccine.

Some of the number gathered said they were there to protest, however one woman insisted that she was simply there to enjoy a picnic with her grandchildren.

Many of those gathered by the lake did not appear to be adhering to social distancing advice. Several police officers were present in the park, close to the lake, where many were gathered.

Ahead of the protest Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said residents in the region “continue to be overwhelmingly supportive of the current measures to support the NHS and save lives”.
