PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia City Council approved the fiscal year 2021 budget on Thursday that closes a projected $749 million budget gap directly related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The budget reduces funding to the Philadelphia Police Department by $33 million, funds important reforms in policing, restores $20 million to the Housing Trust Fund, earmarks another $25 million to reduce poverty and address disparities, and reduces some cuts to the arts and culture community."While the FY21 budget unfortunately has some deep cuts due to the fact that the City is constitutionally bound to pass a balanced budget, City Council worked tirelessly to restore some of the most painful cuts that were in the May proposed budget,” said.
