PHILADELPHIA - As gas prices continue to rise at a historic pace, a local Wawa unveiled a new bank of charging stations for electric cars that many experts believe is the wave of the future.

Electric vehicles amounted to less than 3% of U.S. new auto sales last year, but forecasters expect big increases in the next decade.

Consumers bought about 400,000 fully electric vehicles. According to a Consumer Reports survey, anxiety about limited range and the availability of charging stations were among the top concerns consumers had about owning an EV.Currently, electric vehicle owners charge their vehicles at home 80% of the time, making the need for EV charging stations at colleges, apartment building parking lots or even public streets less urgent.

But that is likely to change as more people who don’t have a garage to house a charging station buy EVs.The Wawa on Aramingo Avenue in Philadelphia unveiled four new EVGO Fast-Charging Plugs on Wednesday.

Howell Living History Farm helps bring gardens to Garden State's capital
TRENTON - A New Jersey historical organization is helping to bring lessons of farming and agriculture to the Garden State's capital. The Howell Living History Farm has helped turn 70 plots of land in Trenton into city gardens and uses the land to help teach kids about old school agriculture. The program started over 30 years ago when community organization ISLES of Trenton got permission to turn three Chestnut Street lots into a garden. Deputy Director of Community Planning Jim Simon said ISLES helps Howell Living History Farm identify suitable city property and helps them organize projects by providing seeds and running soil tests. Children at one of Trenton's gardens Tuesday got a crash course in farming from Howell Living History farmhand Kevin Watson and two plow horses who tilled the land. Neighborhood resident Cephala Ellis believes the garden offers a unique learning experience for children. "They're digging in the soil, they're getting to see what grounding is, what the earth is like, the importance of growing vegetables, growing flowers, and just being in a healthy atmosphere," Ellis said. Anyone interested in starting a community garden can join a growing waiting list by contacting ISLES of Trenton.___DOWNLOAD: FOX 29 NEWS APP | FOX 29 WEATHER AUTHORITY APPSUBSCRIBE: Good Day Digest Newsletter | FOX 29 Philly on YouTubeAdvertisementFOLLOW: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter

Ben Crump: Teen's death on Orlando FreeFall 'worst tragedy captured on video' since George Floyd
ORLANDO, Fla. - Lawyers representing the family of Tyre Sampson, the teen who fell off a drop tower ride at ICON Park in March and died, visited the amusement park Tuesday morning in Orlando, Florida to get their first look at the ride.CONTINUING COVERAGE: Icon Park Death InvestigationAttorney Ben Crump, who represents Yarnell Sampson, Tyre's father, and Michael Haggard, who represents Tyre's mom, Nekia Dodd, were seen talking with various people – presumably inspectors – near the ride.At one point, someone was seen measuring each of the seats, which along with size, weight restrictions, and restraints have become focal points of the investigation from outside experts, lawmakers, and officials into the teen's death."We are doing a thorough investigation into the tragic killing of this 14-year-old child who should have never been killed. We believe this was completely preventable," Crump told reporters in brief remarks.Asked if there was anything that stood out to him during his investigation, Crump reiterated that he and his team were doing a thorough investigation and that they believed the teen's death was preventable."Other than George Floyd's tragic torture video, I think this is the worst tragedy captured on video that I've ever seen," he said.

New Jersey woman accused of reporting fake shooting to get out of traffic stop
CLEMENTON, N.J. - A woman is facing charges after authorities in Camden County say she made a bogus 911 call about a shooting in an effort to distract an officer who had pulled her over. On Monday afternoon, authorities say the Gloucester Township Police Communications Center received a 911 call about a shooting at the Millbridge Garden Apartment Complex in Clementon.Authorities say when officers were responding to the area, they did not observe a shooting scene, and they made several calls to the residents of the complex. Investigators traced the cell phone number back to Katelynne Hunter-Fisher, which dispatchers were able to recognize from a motor vehicle stop that was in progress at the time the 911 call was made.Responding officers verified that there was no shooting at the apartment complex, and they were able to locate the Hunter-Fisher in Lindenwold. Police determined that Hunter-Fisher called in the false shooting report in an attempt to distract the officers from completing the motor vehicle stop. Hunter-Fisher, 35, was arrested for filing a false police report and obstruction of justice. ___MORE LOCAL HEADLINES___DOWNLOAD: FOX 29 NEWS APP | FOX 29 WEATHER AUTHORITY APPSUBSCRIBE: Good Day Digest Newsletter | FOX 29 Philly on YouTubeAdvertisementFOLLOW: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter
