The region's motorway police have been setting up checkpoints today and asking drivers why they are out of their homes. And they say in a matter of hours they caught around a dozen drivers making unnecessary trips.
At the start of this week the government ordered everyone to remain indoors other than for shopping for essential supplies, medical needs, helping others or working if it absolutely cannot be done from home.
The North West Motorway Police today said officers in Cheshire had set up 'checkpoints' on major routes across the county, where they were stopping vehicles and asking why they were making their journeys.
