The latest national shipment of protective equipment for Greater Manchester’s social care sector finally arrived today - but it was two days late, a tenth of what was asked for and will last ‘barely a day’.
Mayor Andy Burnham highlighted the inadequacy of the delivery at this afternoon’s weekly coronavirus press conference, telling ministers: “We cannot continue to operate in this way.” Mr Burnham said there was now a ‘real risk’ that the care sector here would run out of masks and gloves, slamming a ‘faltering, ad hoc’ system that means it is currently separate to the national delivery service for the NHS.
