NORTH WILDWOOD, N.J. - The City of North Wildwood has terminated its contract with its waste removal company amid threats from the company saying they'd leave trash in the streets, city officials allege. According to a press release from the city, the contract with Gold Medal Environmental New Jersey, Inc. (GME) was terminated. The city says GME is a "subsidiary of the multibillion-dollar private equity firm Kinderhook Industries, headquartered in New York City." According to the city, GME's CEO showed up at the North Wildwood Public Works Building on March 8 insisting that the city pay GME two to three times the agreed upon contract amount or the company would "leave the trash in the streets." According to police, the incident happened at the intersection of Algon Avenue and Knorr Street at 10:35 p.m. Authorities say Luis Velez, 52, was driving a 2008 Honda Accord northbound on Algon Avenue behind a 2022 Ford Econoline. 'A boon for the city': Small businesses hope Broad Street Run will funnel business to Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - The Broad Street Run returns to Philadelphia this weekend, and local businesses hope the influx of tourism will help them hit the ground running in a post-pandemic spring. Organizers say 27,000 runners are expected to participate in the 10-mile jaunt through Center City, which is the most in the nation for a run of its length. Several vendors set up shop in the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Friday to market goods and services, a welcomed sign for business owners beaten down by the pandemic over the last two years. Some believe the impact of a large event like the Broad Street Run is two-fold.FOX 29's Jenn Frederick talks with man who is running his sixth Penn Relays at age 85."Bring in that many people both inside and outside the city is a boon for the city itself and the businesses," Broad Street Run organizer Anthony Bocchicchio said. "I think it’s just good for the general morale of the city to raise people's happiness, for lack of a better word, for what they’ve gone through past two years."Forecasters are calling for pleasant running conditions on Sunday, with highs hovering in the upper 60s and partly cloudy skies. Philadelphia working through backlog of smoke alarm requests in wake of tragic Kensington blaze

PHILADELPHIA - As investigators work to determine what sparked a Kensington rowhome fire that killed a father and his three children last weekend, Philadelphia is battling a backlog of unfulfilled smoke alarm requests.Yamalier, 5, Yadriel, 9, and 12-year-old Alexangel Arroyo-Santana perished in a rowhome fire early Sunday morning on the 3200 block of Hartville Street in Kensington. Neighbors say their father, Alexis, also died in the blaze after he told his wife to jump out a window to safety while he went further into the home to save the children. "He had a chance to jump out, but he ended up telling his wife to jump out of the window. He’ll get the children, so he died a hero," a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous said.Fire investigators have not pinpointed what started the fire, but they said no smoke alarms were sounding when firefighters arrived. The School District of Philadelphia identified three children killed in a rowhome fire as Yamalier, 5, Yadriel, 9, and 12-year-old Alexangel.

NORTH PORT, Fla. - The family of Gabby Petito says Brian Laundrie's parents knew before going on a family vacation to Fort DeSoto park that their son had killed his girlfriend and left her body in a national park in Utah, according to new documents filed in Sarasota County court.Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt, Gabby's mother and father, filed a civil lawsuit against Laundrie's parents, accusing them of knowing their son murdered their daughter, but new documents shed light on when they are accused of knowing their son's alleged crimes. The lawsuit, which is expected to be heard by a jury in 2023, seeks more than $100,000 in damages for causing the Petitos pain, suffering, and mental anguish. According to court documents, the Petito family says Brian killed Gabby on August 27, 2021. "Her cause of death was blunt force injuries to the head and neck with manual strangulation," the suit says.The Petitos say Brian sent text messages to and from his and Gabby's phones in an effort to conceal that she was dead.
