Police are asking young people not to hold school leaving parties. Officers have issued a please on social media, after receiving reports that some students are planning to have parties tonight, to mark the premature end of the school year.

Earlier this week the government announced that all schools would close from today, except to vulnerable pupils or children of key workers.

GCSE and A Level exams have also been cancelled, leaving many students who have been working towards them devastated. Police in Stockport are asking parents to advise their children against taking part in any large gatherings, and say it is important to act in a responsible way to help protect the most vulnerable from becoming ill.
