Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan (born 30 March 1965) is an English broadcaster, journalist, writer, and television personality. He is currently a co-presenter of the ITV Breakfast programme Good Morning Britain from Monday to Wednesday each week. Morgan began his career in Fleet Street as a writer and editor for several tabloid papers, including The Sun, News of the World, and the Daily Mirror. In 1994, aged 29, he was appointed editor of the News of the World by Rupert Murdoch, which made him the youngest editor of a British national newspaper in more than half a century.

Piers Morgan has proposed that the Oscars should be cancelled and replaced with a ceremony to celebrate “real heroes” such as those working in the NHS.

The 54-year-old Good Morning Britain star says the nation should praise the health service and those who work tirelessly in it - and says the current coronavirus pandemic should put the work they do into perspective.

The broadcaster thinks more should be done to celebrate those putting their own lives at risk for others - and makes his rallying call just days after the nation took time to applaud the work of the NHS with the “clap for carers” campaign on Thursday.
