A well known and popular Manchester United fan who had been fighting for life with coronavirus has thanked his NHS 'angels' after returning home.

Steve Donoghue, 62, was rushed into hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 back in March. The dad-of-two spent several weeks in an induced coma and on a ventilator in intensive care at North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH).

However doctors were eventually able to bring him round and after a spell at an intermediate care unit next to the hospital has now returned home to continue his recovery at home in Prestwich with wife Elaine.

He says he believes his desire to see his family again, combined with the skill and professionalism of medics, is what helped him pull through.
