Portugal has gone over the quarantine threshold limit after recording 21.1 cases per 100,000 people across seven days. It means that it is highly likely the UK government will add Portugal to its quarantine list meaning all returning travellers to the UK will need to self isolate for 14 days.
The country is now in the 'red zone', according to travel expert Paul Charles from The PC Agency. A seven-day rate of 20 Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people is the threshold above which the UK Government considers triggering quarantine conditions.
Travel restrictions for holidaymakers in England were initially loosened on July 10, but Portugal and the US were excluded from the 'safe' list of 73 countries.
