Two members of the public rushed to aid police officers after they were attacked by a suspect drink driver. Police officers were attending reports of a suspected drink driver, on Shaftesbury Avenue, in Altrincham, on Tuesday evening.

When police pulled the driver over he attempted to flee and attacked the two officers. One of the officers was left suffering with a dislocated shoulder, while the other officer suffered a back injury.

The members of the public assisted officers until back up arrived. A man was later arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a vehicle.
