Shakespeare in the Park is the latest major New York event to fall due to the coronavirus pandemic. The annual summertime festival, typically running May to August, was canceled Friday by its operator, the Public Theater.
This marks the first time the popular free event won’t be held at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park in its 58-year history. “Every summer for the last 58 years we have reveled in gathering under the stars at the magical Delacorte Theater for Free Shakespeare in the Park,” the Public said in a statement on Twitter. “But this year is different.
