Employers affected by the Covid-19 outbreak could face a significant number of redundancy claims, the cost of which could put many of them out of business, according to informed sources.
In the last ten days, thousands of workers have been laid off as companies have been forced to shut down or dramatically reduce their activity due to the virus.
Under redundancy legislation, an employer who lays off employees has to formally notify them by giving them an RP 9 form. However, if after four weeks, the employer is unable to guarantee them 13 consecutive weeks of full-time work within the coming four weeks, the employees are entitled to seek redundancy.
