Police: Partially naked driver fatally strikes teen, injures man before crashing in West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that killed a teenager and injured another person in West Philadelphia. According to Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened just after 11 p.m. on Wednesday night. Officers with the 16th District and fire department paramedics received multiple 911 calls for a report of a car crash on the 800 block of N 44th Street, authorities say. Small says first responders found a 16-year-old severely injured and a 20-year-old with injuries on the sidewalk. The 16-year-old was taken to a local hospital, but he did not survive, according to police. Authorities say the 20-year-old was taken to the hospital and placed in stable condition with a possible broken leg. "Strong temperature gradients between the water and land help create these localized areas of spin (vorticity) at the surface owing to sharp but usually weak changes in wind direction over the bay and adjacent gulf waters," NWS Mobile meteorologists told FOX Weather. PHILADELPHIA - A judge ruled Tuesday that two men will go on trial for murder after a fight at Pat's King of Steaks last year killed a 28-year-old man.Omar Arce, 33, and Jose Alberto Flores-Huerta, 34, were arrested in September 2021 after they were caught on surveillance video outside the iconic South Philadelphia cheesesteak shop.Police say the brawl erupted between two groups after the Philadelphia Union soccer game against Club America at Subaru Stadium in Chester. Isidro Cortez, 28, died after video showed him being pummeled with kicks and punches and beaten with a metal trash can lid. PHILADELPHIA - An investigation is underway after a man died after being shot in South Philadelphia, according to police. Captain John Walker with the Philadelphia Police Department says the shooting took place on Tuesday night around 11:45 p.m. He says officers with the 3rd District responded to a shooting on 4th and Oregon in the South Philadelphia area. According to authorities, officers found a man with a gunshot wound in his neck in a rented SUV. Medics arrived on scene and rushed the man to Jefferson Hospital where he was first placed in critical condition but later died, officials say. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESInvestigators say they learned the SUV was driving on Ritner Street when at least 12 shots were fired at the passenger side of the vehicle. According to police, investigators are still working to learn if the victim was a driver or passenger. Authorities say there are currently no witnesses but they are urging anyone with information to contact police.
