PHILADELPHIA - A young man is expected to recover after police say he was shot inside a Philadelphia KFC restaurant on Wednesday night. Investigators say the 20-year-old man was shot once in the arm while in the dining area of the popular fried chicken chain on the 300 block of North Broad Street. Officers from the Philadelphia Police Department brought the victim to Temple University Hospital where he was placed in stable condition. Police have not said if there were any other customers in the dining area when the shooting happened. No arrests have been reported.

PHILADELPHIA - Simon Gratz High School in Strawberry Mansion will reopen to students on Thursday, after it abruptly closed due to asbestos. In a letter to families, Mastery Charter Schools CEO Scott Gordon said "all findings that needed to be remediated in order for the school to reopen are now complete" and added that air quality samples came back negative for asbestos. Officials closed the school closed over a week ago when inspectors from the School District of Philadelphia found damaged asbestos on the campus of Simon Gratz High School, which also houses Simon Gratz Preparatory Middle School. Officials say the three-year reinspection of the district-owned building was in accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act.

Dio Garcia of Philadelphia was arrested in Bensalem.  BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Bensalem Township Police Department is touting the success of what they call proactive police work after an armed robbery suspect wanted in Philadelphia was arrested during a traffic stop in the Bucks County town. Authorities say on Tuesday, just before 10 a.m., patrol officers saw a 2013 Ford Edge commit a violation while going south on Route 1. According to police, the officers initiated a traffic stop and made contact with 40-year-old Dio Garcia from Philadelphia. A check of the crime system revealed the car Garcia was driving was listed as a felony vehicle with an occupant wanted for a point-of-gun robbery, officials say. Police say Garcia was also wanted out of Florida on a warrant for a probation violation. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESGarcia was taken into police custody and the Ford Edge was towed by police, authorities say. After a search warrant was obtained for the vehicle, a search led to the finding of a container of suspected marijuana and a loaded .40 caliber Beretta handgun, officials say. The gun, which was reported stolen out of Delaware, matched the description of the weapon used in the armed robbery in Philadelphia, per police. Police say Garcia faces several charges in Bensalem and Philadelphia Police are obtaining an arrest warrant for the gunpoint robbery. 

MONTGOMERY COUNTY - Officials say two men are now wanted for the murder of a 25-year-old man who was found dead near the Schuylkill River Trail in Montgomery County last week.Arrest warrants have been issued for Cody Reed, 23, of Norristown, and Marquise Johnson, 23, of Philadelphia, for first-degree murder, robbery and related charges.The murder suspects are accused of killing Daquan Tucker, of Audubon, whose body was found by a bicyclist in a wooded area about 100 feet from the trail down a steep embankment. MORE HEADLINES:Officials say all three men knew each other, and met at Reed's home before walking the trail where the shooting took place. The victim suffered multiple gunshots wounds to the body.A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the suspects' arrest.

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Police Department is investigating a shooting that left a man critically injured. Police say officers responded to Pennsylvania Hospital for a 19-year-old gunshot victim who was dropped off by a private vehicle early Wednesday morning just before 3 a.m. According to authorities, two suspects were inside the vehicle, believed to be a Nissan, with the victim. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESOfficials say the suspects fired multiple times, hitting the victim throughout his body on the 3200 block of Wharton Street in the South Philadelphia section of the city. The man has been placed in critical condition, authorities say. The investigation is ongoing and active, according to police. 

BENSALEM, Pa. - A young girl awoke to a terrifying nightmare when police say she found a grown man beside her in her own bed.Police were responding to a burglary in progress on the 300 block of Thunder Circle in Bensalem when they were alerted to the incident.The 9-year-old victim ran out of her room when she woke up next to a burglary suspect wearing just underwear, according to authorities. PHILADELPHIA - The New Jersey coast was hammered by a powerful nor'easter that battered beaches dealing with erosion issues that have undergone multi-million dollar replenishment projects. Ocean City recently wrapped up a $24.5M project that added over a million cubic yards of sand to the beach from 14th street to Seaview Avenue. Locals believe this week's storm that brought everything from tropical storm force winds to rain and snow to areas along mid-Atlantic coast wreaked havoc on the recently finished project. "All of that sand hasn't really set yet, so it just gets wiped away when we get bigger storms," said local surfer Cooper Lysinger, who enjoyed the large swells produced by the late-winter noreaster.

HATBORO, Pa. - A shelter-in-place has been issued in Hatboro after an armed man barricaded himself inside an apartment, authorities say.According to Hatboro Police Chief James Gardner, the incident began just after 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday evening when officers were dispatched for a report of a man with a gun on North York Road.Police say they were responding to reports that the man was pointing a gun at passing traffic.An officer responded to the location and made contact with the man, who then ran into a nearby apartment, officials say.Gardner says officers have attempted to contact the man throughout the night, but he has been unresponsive."At this point, our goal is to get this individual out of the apartment in a peaceful manner and resolve this so no one is injured," Gardner said.Officials say no shots were fired, but officers are still working to negotiate with the man.A shelter-in-place was issued for areas near the apartment as a precaution, authorities say.Nearby school districts were notified about the shelter-in-place and the Hatboro-Horsham School District closed all schools and offices for the day. Several roads in the area have been closed as police continue to investigate. Drivers have been asked to avoid the area. This is a developing story.

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - The president of the Springfield Township Board of Commissioners resigned after a year of trying to get a local police organization to not use the so-called ‘Blue Lives Matter’ flag as its logo.Eddie Graham says he wanted to give a voice to African-American residents and work on issues to bring equity and unity to the community when he was elected as commissioner eight years ago. Instead, Graham - the first and only Black Commissioner and the first Black President of the Springfield Township Board of Commissioners - said he was met with hate and humiliation. He claims he was ostracized and humiliated from his first board appointment when he was appointed to chair a non-existent committee. "Mind was given to the Committee of Human Resources, which there were no members and I was the sole member, and the laugh was I could have my meetings wherever I wanted," Graham said. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESGraham also said he endured a fellow board member sending him a derogatory caricature that depicted Black people as lazy and dumb. "I said ‘Are you serious right now!?’ and he actually, instead of apologizing, he got belligerent," Graham said. Last year, when Graham saw the Springfield Township Police Benevolent Association changed its logo to the ‘Blue Lives Matter’ emblem, he expressed concern because he claims it is a symbol of white supremacy. James Lee, the new President of the Springfield Township Board of Commissioners, wouldn't comment on the matter and referred FOX 29 to his comments from the Jan.

PHILADELPHIA - One of America's largest and most popular retailers is officially shutting down one of its Philadelphia locations.The Washington Square Target at 1128 Chestnut Street will close for good on May 13 "after multiple years of working to improve performance," according to a Target spokesperson.Currently, 45 part-time and full-time employees work at the Center City location, which opened in 2016. MORE HEADLINES:Official say those employees will be offered the chance to work at a nearby Target. After the Washington Square store closes, nine other Targets will remain open in Philadelphia.The Target closure comes months after Wawa closed two Center City locations due to the rise of crime and violence across the city.
