Stephen Lawrence dad says black people still treated as second-class citizens in Britain

Murdered teenager Stephen Lawrence's father believes black people are still treated as second-class citizens in Britain. Dr Neville Lawrence told The Guardian he was "pleased" by the mass Black Lives Matter demonstrations being held across the UK in the wake of George Floyd's death.

He said the global demonstrations were necessary because people of colour were still being treated as second-class citizens "not only in this country but all over the world".

But said there is still too much racial injustice inherent in the country, including disproportionate stop and search figures against black people.

Figures for 2019 show the Metropolitan Police stopped more black people than white, despite black people making up 12% of London’s population
