California crews use 4,500 gallons of water to put out Tesla fire

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento fire crews used about 4,500 gallons of water to fully extinguish a Tesla that kept re-igniting and then ended up submerging the high-tech car into a makeshift pond to fully quell the blaze. The white Tesla was fully involved with fire when the fire crew arrived at the scene earlier this week, according to the fire district's Facebook post. The car was parked in a wrecking yard for dismantling after it was greatly damaged from an accident in early June. It "took a significant amount of time, water, and thinking outside the box to extinguish," fire crew said. Firefighters knocked the fire down, but the car kept re-igniting in the battery compartment. "Even with direct penetration, the vehicle would still re-ignite due to the residual heat," officials said. In the end, the crew and the wrecking yard staff successfully created a small pit filled with water and submerged the battery compartment into the water. No injuries were reported. Teslas and other electric vehicles have been known to have issues with fires, especially with the batteries. It can be difficult to put flames out because the vehicles' lithium-ion batteries keep burning until all the energy is released. It can take as long as 24 hours to put out, according to a guide for first responders for the Tesla Model S. This story was reported from Oakland, Calif. NEW DELHI : In the wake of rising covid cases across the country, the union health minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Thursday directed the states/UTs to focus on surveillance, genome sequencing to scan for any possible mutation and monitor hospitalization of covid cases. Mandaviya chaired a high-level meeting to review covid status across the country ordered the officials to ramp up covid testing and accelerate covid-19 vaccination for all eligible population. Lav Agarwal, joint secretary, made a detailed presentation on the global scenario of surge in COVID cases and status of COVID in the country. This included presentation and analysis of trend of covid-19 cases, daily & active cases, positivity and deaths; testing status along with state-wise weekly tests per million, RT-PCR share in weekly tests; genome sequencing; and vaccination status. The union health minister stressed on the need to focus on districts reporting high case positivity, undertake adequate testing (with higher proportion of RT-PCR) and effective covid-19 surveillance to assess and control the spread of infection in a timely manner, stated the government release. PHILADELPHIA - A stretch of the Schuylkill Expressway closed Wednesday evening as authorities investigated a shooting on the busy highway. Ryan Corcoran, 26 NORRISTOWN, Pa. - A New Jersey man is facing felony charges for soliciting child sexual abuse material from girls as young as 11 years old in Montgomery County.Officials say 26-year-old Ryan Corcoran contacted two sisters, ages 11 and 12, through TikTok and text messages to send him naked photos.The girls' father contacted police after one of the sisters told him she had sent photos to Corcoran.Both girls when started receiving texts and naked photos from another number appearing to be Corcoran's 14-year-old sister. However, officials say the number actually belonged to Corcoran.The phone number was traced back to a Verizon wireless business account registered to the suspect's father, Michael Corcoran.
