Millions of children could return to school on June 1 as part of plans to help get the education sector back on track following a drop in coronavirus cases.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce phase two of the UK's lockdown measures on Sunday, which will reportedly result in Year Six pupils returning to schools first.
This could be followed by Year 11 children, though teachers are being advised that they may be able to refuse if they believe their workplace is not safe enough.
Unions have warned teachers of Section 44 of the Employment Rights Act 1996, which protects an employee’s right to withdraw from a workplace if they believe it is unsafe.
