A BBC journalist has told how she had to cancel a live broadcast about coronavirus after receiving racist abuse from an onlooker - just before she was due to go on air.
Sima Kotecha was about to begin filming in Leicester for a special BBC news programme on Covid-19 when a man began shouting a torrent of abuse.
The reporter, from Basingstoke, posted a series of tweets and said the broadcast had to be pulled because of a “man shouting terrible things.” The team were supposed to appear live on BBC One after Boris Johnson’s broadcast shortly after 7pm on May 10, however the incident left her appalled.
