If there is one area where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has consistently excelled as Manchester United manager so far it is in preparing his side for one-off occasions.

While inconsistency has dogged United in the Premier League, at least until recently, Solskjaer has often managed to raise his side to get results in cup competitions and in the biggest of domestic fixtures.

It may well be that the Norwegian gets the chance to prove his ability to set up his team to thrive in one-off, knockout matches again if the 2019/20 season resumes, with a change to the calendar that could require just that attribute.

United are as good as through to the Europa League quarter-finals, holding a 5-0 lead after the first leg of the last-32 tie against LASK Linz.
