When Manchester United's class of 2015/16 opened their UEFA Youth League group stage campaign with a 3-0 win at PSV Eindhoven hopes would have been high that a talented crop of players could make their mark in Europe.
But by the end of 2015 regular watchers of the youth ranks could have been forgiven for wondering where some of Nicky Butt's side were heading.
The win in Eindhoven was quickly forgotten back at Leigh Sports Village, with PSV winning 5-0, while United were also shellacked 4-0 at CSKA Moscow.
They didn't win a home game and crashed out of the competition at the group stage. That just proved that results aren't everything when it comes to academy development.
