People on low incomes in Manchester are to see £150 wiped off their council tax bills as the council steps up its efforts to help struggling households during the coronavirus pandemic.

Anyone already receiving council tax support - which accounts for 34,000 people across the city - will see the additional discount applied in the next fortnight, meaning many people will pay nothing at all this year.

It also means a rebate will be put into the accounts of those who have already paid in the coming weeks. The town hall has put together a new £7.5m package for people most in need during the outbreak, which also covers a range of other support.
