Tom Cruise has confirmed that Top Gun: Maverick has been pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Hollywood actor, 57, is set to reprise his role as Pete Maverick Mitchell in the Top Gun sequel that is finally hitting the big screen more than three decades after the original movie.

It was due to hit cinemas in the UK in July later this year, but Tom revealed on Twitter that the upcoming movie has now been pushed back due to the outbreak of Covid-19.

He tweeted: ‘I know many of you have waited 34 years. Unfortunately, it will be a little longer. Top Gun: Maverick will fly this December.

Stay safe, everyone.’ Top Gun: Maverick is the latest film in a string of new movies that has been forced to push back its release date.
