The Minister for Education, Joe McHugh, said he expects schools will be able to reopen in September, and that work is underway to ensure this can be done in a safe way.
Speaking on RTÉ's The Week in Politics, he was asked how this would be possible, when it had been deemed unsafe to hold the Leaving Cert in August. "I am going to work with all the stakeholders, in primary and post-primary, because the NPHET advice is that schools will reopen in September. "So the question now is, how can we do that in a safe way.
It's too early to say how that will look. We will continue to work our way through it. "The last thing I want to do is say - in the month of May - what this will look like.
