UEFA plan Euro 2020 switch as Covid crisis threatens Hampden's role in Europe-wide tournament

Euro 2020 to Russia next summer due to Covid restrictions throughout Europe. The tournament had been planned as the first to take place in various cities throughout Europe, including Glasgow.

Hampden was due to host group games as well as a match in the last 16 but UEFA could move the entire tournament to Russia, just two years after the nation hosted the World Cup in 2018.

The tournament was a huge success and it means the infrastructure is in place if the governing body do decide to make the switch from 12 different countiries.Le Parisien report that UEFA have been in ‘turmoil’ as they look to solve the issues being caused by the coronavirus pandemic.Russia already offered to host the Euros earlier this year at the start of the crisis.
