The UK's coronavirus death toll has risen by 799, in a drop of a quarter since the same time last week. It is the lowest Tuesday death toll recorded this year - with the last lowest on December 29, when 414 people tragically lost their lives to Covid-19.
The number of new infections recorded in the last 24 hours rose by 10,265, in a slight increase on Monday's total of 9,765 cases.
However the case total is still down 16% week-on-week, as infection rates trend steadily downwards. Last week officials confirmed the 'R' rate had dropped back below one for the first time since summer, meaning the transmission rate is plateauing.
