UK coronavirus hospital deaths leap 448 as huge rise marks highest Sunday since May

Another 448 people have died in hospitals across the UK - a huge rise that has marked today as the highest Sunday rise since May.

In England, 386 patients died in hospital while another 6 died in Northern Ireland as a new mutant strain spreads across the country.

Public Health Wales reported another 56 deaths, taking the total in Wales since the start of the pandemic to 3,620. A further 4,011 cases of coronavirus were recorded in Wales, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 155,311.

Scotland announced a further 2,464 people has tested positive for coronavirus. It has not reported its latest death toll and will provide new figures on Monday.
