The number of coronavirus hospital deaths in the UK has increased by 945, with an eight-year-old child among the latest victims.
England reported 789 new fatalities including an 111-year-old person, Scotland had 89, Wales recorded 46 and Northern Ireland had 21 to take the hospital total past 75,000.
The number of hospital deaths is down by seven per cent on a week ago, when 1,018 fatalities on January 14 set a new Thursday record for the pandemic.
By comparison, the number of deaths announced on the previous Thursdays was 819 on January 7, 673 on December 31, 467 on December 24 and 434 on December 17.
