The number of new coronavirus cases in the UK has jumped by 2,919 further fuelling fears of a second wave of the virus. Yesterday some 2,659 people were recorded as having contracted the potentially fatal disease - but the number of hospitalisations remains low.
The number of people who have contracted Covid-19 since the start of the outbreak now stands at 358,138 following today's figures.
The death toll in all settings is now confirmed to be 41,608 after a further 14 people died, new government figures show. Earlier today the Department of Health confirmed that nine people had died in hospitals across the country.
