CRA ‘confident’ a compromise is possible as tax season strike fears grow

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - A 14-year-old boy was found behind the wheel of a pickup truck that police say caused five cars to crash, sending six people to the hospital over the weekend.Several cars were stopped at Coastal Highway and Slaughter Beach Road for flashing red lights when the truck crashed into the last car in the line.The collision caused a chain reaction, propelling each car forward, until all five were crashed on the highway.Police say a 14-year-old boy was driving the truck, and that alcohol was detected on his breath. Beer bottles were also find outside the truck.MORE HEADLINES:Two passengers, a 14-year-old boy and 16-year-old boy, were also inside the truck and taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.Seven other people, ranging in age from 23 to 65, were in the other crashed cars.

More than 155,000 federal public servants will strike on Wednesday if no deal is reached between the federal government and the Public Service Alliance of Canada.

Canada Revenue Agency workers over an ongoing labour dispute “poses a threat to small businesses,” an independent group has warned, calling for an extension of the tax deadline.The Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) in a statement Monday urged the agency and the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC)-Union of Taxation Employees (UTE), which represents more than 35,000 CRA workers, to quickly reach an agreement.“The timing couldn’t be worse,” said Dan Kelly, CFIB president in the statement, arguing that a potential strike could create uncertainty for small businesses in the middle of tax season. CHICAGO - Hundreds of teenagers flooded into Downtown Chicago on Saturday night, smashing car windows, trying to get into Millennium Park, and prompting a major police response. At least one person in a car was attacked.Shots were fired near the corner of Madison and Michigan, and FOX 32 Chicago decided that it was unsafe to keep our news crew on the scene.Two teens were wounded by gunfire in the crowds in the first block of East Washington Street.

JUNIATA PARK - Teamsters Local 830 went on strike Sunday against Liberty Coca-Cola, the largest Coca-Cola bottler and distributor, serving New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.The union represents 400 members at Liberty Coca-Cola’s Philadelphia plant, in Philadelphia’s Juniata Park neighborhood. Their contract expired April 15.Both Liberty Coca-Cola and the union stated they were in intensive contract negotiations several months, but have been unable to reach an agreement.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - A high-speed police chase took a dangerous turn in Los Angeles County Wednesday evening.A man, initially wanted for reckless driving, led the California Highway Patrol on a chase along the 5 Freeway across Los Angeles County. Over the course of the chase, the suspect traveled through parts of Valley Village, North Hollywood, Pacoima, Santa Clarita and Castaic.The chase eventually ended in the North Antelope Valley area where the suspect ditched the car.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY - A Pennsylvania family left in shambles after officials say an 11-year-old boy was killed by his own mother, who then tried to drive her car into the ocean at the Jersey Shore.Police were called to a house 500 block of Privet Road in Horsham Township Tuesday when a man said he discovered his son dead in the master bedroom.The boy's dad told police the 11-year-old had slept in bed with his mom the night prior, but the door was locked the next morning, and his wife's car was missing.Officials say an investigation revealed that the boy's mom, identified as Ruth DiRienzo-Whitehead, killed her son after he went to sleep around 9:30 p.m.MORE HEADLINES:She then fled to Cape May and drove into the ocean until her car was inoperable.

BRANDON, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for help identifying a man and a woman accused of attacking a driver who, witnesses said, hit their car and drove away on a Tampa-area roadway.Troopers say the pair got into a minor crash with a 31-year-old Brandon woman on Tuesday around 5 p.m. at the intersection of US 301 and Martin Luther King Boulevard. In video posted on social media, the man and the woman can be seen attacking a 2019 Chevy sedan.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY - A dad made a tragic discovery when he came to find his 11-year-old son dead in his bed Tuesday morning, according to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office.Police were called to a house on the 500 block of Privet Road in Horsham Township, where they found the boy in the master bedroom.The boy's dad, identified as Matthew Whitehead, told police the 11-year-old had slept in the bed with his mom Ruth Whitehead-Dirienzo the night prior.This morning, he noticed the bedroom door was locked, and his wife's car was missing from their garage.MORE HEADLINES:Her car was found partially submerged in the ocean near Beach Avenue in Cape May while police were still at the family's home.Whitehead-Dirienzo was then found by Wildwood Crest Police a short time later.

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. - A deadly discovery led to a murder investigation, police chase one state over, and ultimately the arrest of a male-female duo weeks later.Charles Lowe, 44, and Sierra Steiner, 28, are charged with murder after a man was found shot and killed inside a car on the 2400 block of Old County Road on March 19.Police say the man, who has not been identified, was parked with Steiner in the passenger seat when Lowe pulled up behind him and approached the car.When he tried to drive away, authorities say Lowe shot the victim causing him to crash into a wooded area.MORE HEADLINES:Steiner and Lowe then fled together in the suspect's vehicle.

LOS ANGELES - A puppy was safely recovered after being thrown out of a moving vehicle during a wild 2-hour pursuit through parts of Los Angeles County Friday afternoon.  The pursuit began around noon in the area of 99th Street and Avalon Boulevard in South Los Angeles. The suspect, in a Chevy Avalanche, was wanted for attempted murder and carjacking.  A suspect wanted for attempted murder led officers with the Los Angeles Police Department on a two-hour pursuit Friday afternoon that spanned across LA County, at one point ditching one vehicle and getting into another.WATCH THE FULL PURSUIT HERE SkyFOX was live over the chase as the vehicle sped through parts of Inglewood and Westchester, on both sides of the Los Angeles International Airport. During the chase, the suspect's vehicle hit another car and shortly thereafter the driver ditched the Chevy truck and got into the back of another vehicle, that appeared to be waiting for him. RELATED: Suspect hits vehicle, jumps into another during wild 2-hour pursuitThe chase continued at high speeds on surface streets in Willowbrook before the driver in the second vehicle led authorities back to the South LA area. In the area of 56th Street and Figueroa St, someone from inside the vehicle tossed a puppy out of the car. PHILADELPHIA - Officials say a car ran into the Schuylkill River early Saturday morning, prompting an hours-long search by police, fire crews and diving teams.Several emergency crews responded the area of Kelly Drive near the Columbia Bridge for reports of a car in the Schuylkill River around 1:30 a.m.An additional diving team was called to the scene to search for any possible people in the river. PHILADELPHIA - Two shootings erupted in two separate Philadelphia neighbors just hours apart, leaving two young girls recovering from serious injuries.A 15-year-old girl is in serious condition after police say she was shot at least three times on the 5200 block of Duffield Street in East Frankford around 3 a.m. This shooting comes after a 12-year-old girl was shot in the back on South 58th Street in Cobbs Creek around 8 p.m. Friday.
