Waitrose has apologised after it asked staff to pay back time they spent self-isolating thanks while protecting others from catching coronavirus.
Bosses told staff that up to two weeks' holiday could be taken to cover time spent at home because they or someone else in their household had the virus or needed to be protected from it.
But after seeing the reaction from staff and members of the public, the supermarket rapidly reversed its position. On hearing the news, one member of staff told The National they were worried the policy could result in people coming in to work on the shop floor in warehouses despite suspecting they were ill. “My biggest concern around this is that really vulnerable people will not self-isolate or shield, and
