NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - A 29-year-old woman accused of using false documents to enroll as a New Jersey high school student and attend some classes over a four-day period will be allowed to enter a pretrial intervention program, a state judge ruled Monday.The woman had pleaded not guilty in March to a charge of providing a false government document. Her lawyer has said she did so because she was lonely and longed to return to her days with friends in school but now realizes she made a mistake.

ESCONDIDO, Calif. - An 8-week-old kitten is on the mend after the tiny animal got its head stuck in the frame of a truck in California. The driver of the truck was on the road on Monday and heard "meowing sounds" at a stop sign, according to the San Diego Humane Society. Upon further inspection, the driver discovered the female kitten with its head stuck in a hole in the frame of the truck.RELATED: Watch: Police respond to calls for help, turns out to be 'very upset goat'The truck driver contacted the San Diego Humane Society, whose staff members sedated the kitten and worked to safely extract the animal. "After sedating the kitten, they patiently used Q-tips to dislodge her head and free her from the tight spot," the humane society said in a post on Facebook about the ordeal. The kitten was then taken to the humane society’s Escondido campus "for additional care, including pain medication, fluids, antibiotics and a good meal."The kitten is pictured in screengrabs from a video shared by the San Diego Humane Society of the rescue.

PHILADELPHIA - Homicide detectives in Philadelphia are investigating a shooting that left one man dead on Friday morning. According to authorities, the shooting erupted on the 800 block of Hutton Street in the city's Belmont section around 2:15 a.m. Chief Inspector Scott Small said police responded to the scene for reports of gunshots and found a 59-year-old man sitting in the driver's seat of a Chevy. Police say the man was unresponsive with gunshot wounds to his neck and chest. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESThe victim was transported to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, officials say. According to investigators, the window of the vehicle was down when they arrived on scene. The victim lives several blocks away from the fatal shooting scene, police say. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Germany captured the moment when an autobahn bridge was demolished using hundreds of pounds of explosives last weekend. Approximately 150 kilograms (330 pounds) of explosives were used to demolish the Rahmede viaduct in Ludenscheid, Germany, on May 7. The viaduct was the largest bridge to ever be blown up in the country’s history, according to local news media. The Rahmede viaduct was 1,476 feet long and stood at 230 feet tall.

Reed Messer, 42, was extradited back to Delaware to face sexual abuse and rape charges.  WILMINGTON, Del. - A former educator has been sent back to Delaware after being charged with rape for a sexual relationship with a former student, Delaware State Police say. According to authorities, 42-year-old Reed Messer became the subject of an investigation in December 2022 when State Police received a report from the Delaware Division of Family Services alleging the former teacher had a sexual relationship with a juvenile student at Stanton Middle School in Wilmington nearly a decade prior. Troopers say an investigation revealed Messer had sexual relations with the student in a relationship that began in October 2014 and lasted for about two months. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESOn April 26, troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Messer, who moved to South Carolina, authorities say. Law enforcement in South Carolina found Messer at her residence and took her into custody, according to officials. State Police say Messer was extradited back to Delaware on Monday and charged with sexual abuse of a child and rape.

PHILADELPHIA - A man is in critical condition after police say he was shot while attempting to steal a car in West Philadelphia Saturday night. Shortly before 10 p.m., police responded to the 6100 block of Ellsworth Street where they located a 28-year-old man who had been shot multiple times throughout his body. MORE HEADLINES Police transported the man to Presbyterian Hospital where authorities say he was placed in critical condition. One arrest was made, and a weapon was recovered, according to authorities.
