Wayne Rooney is reportedly leading the fight against a 50 per cent player wage deferral at Derby County amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Championship side’s board want their squad to give up half of their pay, which would then be paid back at a later date. But reports claim the PFA told the Derby players to reject the club’s proposal and negotiate a smaller referral of around 25 per cent.
And former Manchester United captain Rooney has been nominated to lead the players’ negotiations with club CEO Stephen Pearce.
According to the Daily Mail , Rooney has already spoken directly to Professional Footballers' Association chief Gordon Taylor.
