The boss of Wetherspoons has said in a video sent to staff that they can “go work at Tesco” instead, during the coronavirus pandemic.
Tim Martin had to close his chain of pubs on Friday night as the government enforced stricter measures in tackling the Covid-19 outbreak.
The CEO, who employs around 40,000 people, contacted his staff via a video in which he apologised for the closures and described the government's promise to pay 80% of staff wages up to £2,500, is "good news" - but believes they could be waiting weeks before they receive it.
In the video, the Mirror reports that the businessman also suggested his staff apply to major supermarkets who are currently hiring to meet current demands.
