When Victor Lindelof got in touch with the sporting director of his former team in Sweden to ask if he could train with them this week, the answer was always going to be a resounding yes.
While Lindelof’s career has taken off since his early days at Vasteras SK - a club in Sweden’s second division, the Superettan - taking him to Lisbon and now Manchester, he has never forgotten his roots.
Lindelof was born in the city of 120,000 inhabitants and made his debut for VSK at 16. Within 18 months he’d signed for Benfica but he’s never forgotten his roots and when Europe became gripped by the coronavirus pandemic, the Manchester United defender headed back to his home town.
