PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia street was renamed Friday to honor America's oldest living Olympic medalist, Herb Douglas. "If you had told me when I was born that a street would be named after me, I could never fathom that, but here it is," Douglas said. The intersection of Cranston and Ford roads in West Philadelphia now bears the name ‘Herb Douglas Way’ following a Friday commemoration ceremony. Douglas earned the bronze medal in the 1948 Summer Olympics, competing in the high jump. He missed silver to Australia's Theo Bruce by just .5 an inch. Douglas and fellow African-American Willie Steele shared the podium in the event. "I was born 59-years after slavery," Douglas said Friday.

HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania's Democratic governor sued the state Legislature on Thursday over a package of proposed constitutional amendments that Republican lawmakers are pursuing, including one that would say the state constitution does not guarantee any rights relating to abortion or public funding of abortions.The lawsuit filed in the state Supreme Court argues that the proposed abortion amendment would violate privacy protections. The PSPCA says Arthur was in too much pain to let anyone touch him until medication and antibiotics were administered. After being sedated, a Mainline Animal Rescue veterinarian cleaned the injury, took x-rays and identified it as a gunshot wound. The agency shared graphic images of Arthur's injury on Instagram Friday. WARNING: Some readers may find the images distressing.

PHILADELPHIA - Police say a bicyclist is in critical condition after colliding with a car in Center City on Thursday night. According to authorities, the incident happened at 7:50 p.m. in the area of 23rd Street and Walnut Street. A bicyclist, 28, was traveling south on 23rd Street when a vehicle collided with the bicyclist at the intersection, police say. Officials say the driver remained on scene and medics transported the bicyclist to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he is in stable condition. According to police, the investigation is active and ongoing.

UPPER DUBLIN, Pa. - A Pennsylvania school bus aide was charged after investigators said he sexually assaulted a girl and acted inappropriately with other young passengers. Kenneth Cannon, 71, is accused of asking several girls 6-12-years-old to sit on his lap and touching them inappropriately during rides to and from school. Cannon worked as bus aide in the Upper Dublin School District and has since been placed on administrative leave during the investigation. School officials say they were first made aware of the heinous accusations in late May. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAn affidavit details a 6-year-old girl's encounter with Cannon during which it's alleged that he inappropriately touched her while sitting on his lap aboard the bus. The victim then ran to the back of the bus and claims Cannon told her "do not tell anyone I did this." "The safety of our students is always our top priority," the Upper Dublin School District said in a statement.

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia community gathered to denounce gun violence less than 24-hours after a young girl was caught up in the crossfire of a street shooting. Authorities say a 7-year-old girl was struck in the hand when a shootout erupted on the 200 block of Armstrong Street around 8 p.m. Wednesday. She was rushed to Albert Einstein Medical Center where she was placed in stable condition, police said. "What did she do to deserve that? The three woman sought by police were captured on store surveillance video stuffing nearly $2k in wigs underneath their shirts.  GLOUCESTER TWP, N.J. - Police in Camden County are searching for three women who they say stole nearly $2k in wigs from a local beauty shop. The Gloucester Township Police Department shared a surveillance video of the three women inside Coco Beauty Supply on Berlin-Cross Keys Road on July 20. According to police, the suspects went to the back of the store and tried on wigs for several minutes. The women then stuffed nearly $2k worth of wigs underneath their shirts and left without paying, police said. Investigators are asking anyone with information on the suspects to contact the Gloucester Township Police Department. 

MAPLE SHADE, N.J. - A New Jersey woman was arrested after investigators said she posed as a state worker and knocked on a family's door to inquire about their infant daughter.Love Hodge, 29, was charged with Impersonating a Public Servant, Burglary and additional offenses. Officers from the Maple Shade Police Department were called to a home on Sunflower Path on July 23 for reports of a suspicious person. The caller told police that a woman came to her door claiming to be an employee with the New Jersey Department of Child Protection and Permanency. Police say the phony employee did not show identification or a business card, and inquired about the woman's 5-month-old daughter.

The family of 44-year-old Maurice Pinkard gave an emotional plea about getting justice for the husband, father and grandfather fatally struck by a vehicle in Upper Chichester Township.  UPPER CHICHESTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The family of a 44-year-old man killed in a hit and run in Pennsylvania is making an emotional plea for people to come forward with information. Police say troopers responded to mile marker 2.4 on I-95 north in Upper Chichester Township on Saturday around 9:12 p.m. According to authorities, troopers found Maurice Pinkard, a motorcycle and a pick-up truck after they were all struck by a vehicle. State Police say a 44-year-old man died after he was fatally struck by a blue Ford F-150 that veered into the shoulder and hit him on Saturday night. The search for the vehicle and the driver involved is ongoing.Investigators say it was determined that a blue Ford F-150 traveling in the right lane on I-95 swerved onto the shoulder, striking Pinkard, who was filling his wife's car with gas after she ran out, and two other vehicles. Maurice's wife Caprice, four of their six children and one of their grandchildren joined Good Day Philadelphia to discuss the tragedy and their search for justice. The family of 44-year-old Maurice Pinkard, who was killed in a hit-and-run in Upper Chichester Township, speak with FOX 29's Mike Jerrick about how Maurice's death has impacted their family.

PHILADELPHIA - A new grocery store located in North Philadelphia is working to combat the neighborhood's food desert by providing residents with quality groceries. The new store, Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, opened on Ridge Avenue in North Philadelphia on Thursday.The store's purpose is to serve the Sharswood community, which was considered a food desert before the opening of the new store, the company says. The United States Department of Agriculture defines a food desert as an area where residents have limited access to a variety of healthy foods due to limited income or living far away from healthy resources. According to Grocery Outlet Bargain Market, before the opening of the new store, the closest grocery store was more than a mile away and was known for high prices. MORE LOCAL HEADLINESAdditionally, the new store has created 30 new jobs for members of the community and it will give residents big savings on quality groceries. In celebration of the store's grand opening, customers were given the chance to enter a drawing to win $1,000 worth of groceries.
