So far this weekend, 60% of new cases of Covid-19 reported in the country are in Dublin. It comes as the county enters its second day of elevated restrictions, aimed at reducing the spread of the virus.
Yesterday, the Health Protection Surveillance Centre reported 274 new coronavirus cases. Of these, 166 cases, or 60%, were in Dublin where tighter public health measures have been introduced.
However, there was a wide geographical spread among the 108 remaining cases, which occurred in 21 other counties. 65% of the new cases occurred in people aged under 45 and there 52 new cases of community transmission where the source of the infection is unknown.
